Memoriam to Jeanette Zakour-Elias

Jeanette Zakour-Elias was one of the first two female teachers at Fatima College, the other being Daphne Haywood.

They began in September 1973, both past students of Holy Name Convent. Jeanette was an Island Scholarship winner in Languages and after completing her years at university, assumed duties at Fatima College which was her first job. Jeanette taught French, Spanish and Religion and exuded a confidence well beyond her years. She was focused and passionate about her subjects and a consummate professional…. there was no time to waste. Both students and colleagues speak in glowing terms of her years in Fatima from 1973 to 1979, taking a break to do a year stint in France. Jeanette set the bar high for the female teachers that followed. Fatima can boast of their teachers who are dedicated to the vocation and Jeanette was the key stone. May she rest in peace.

One of our beloved former teachers, Ms. Jeanette Zakour-Elias passed away on the 14th April 2024.

In 1973, Fatima saw its first female teachers; Ms. Daphne Heywood and Ms. Jeanette Zakour. She taught French and Spanish and left Fatima in 1982.

May she rest in peace.
