Randal Durham (27 July, 2020)
“My Name is Randal John Durham, I am 34 years old and graduated from Fatima Form 5 with the Class of 2003.
I am the Project Manager and Service Engineer specialising in Critical Care, Monitoring, Imaging and Health IT Equipment at Biomedical Technologies Ltd, that is, I install, maintain and repair cardiac monitors, ECG, radiology devices and the software that these equipment use. I also design and implement software solutions to be used by health facilities throughout the Caribbean. I am also learning to repair ventilator systems due to the current crisis.
Since this pandemic has hit Trinidad I was one of the engineers that:
• Commissioned 12 ventilators and 2 mobile cardiac monitors at Couva Multi-Training Facility.
• Facilitated training for the new mobile ventilators at Sangre Grande General Hospital.
• Installed, configured and commissioned 115 cardiac monitors, 8 remote viewing central stations to view patient vitals, without undue exposure, and 1 ventilator at the new Arima General Hospital.
And we are currently in the process of implementing a National Radiology Imaging Solution with Patient Portal in Barbados to reduce the timeline, and patients’ need to return to the hospital, for results.
While there are other projects, these have been the major accomplishments thus far by myself and my team.
My advice to my fellow alum, Continue to take precautions! While this disease has thrown all our plans into disarray and it’s easy to ignore all warnings, to be incubated on a ventilator is to be sedated while a tube is put in your throat forcing you to breathe at the rate of a machine. It is not fun, it is not nice, we in health don’t like to see people suffer, be safe, better paranoid and safe than sick and suffering.”
Randal….for all that you do, we thank and salute you!!!!
