3rd March 1947 to 29th July 2008 Mr. Krishna Rosamond Charles attended St. Mary’s College, Port of Spain from 1960 to 1966, where he was awarded a Government of India Scholarship. He then migrated to India and in 1969 graduated with a BSc. honours in Chemistry with Physics and MathematÂics from the University of Calcutta. He returned to Trinidad and attained a job at St. Mary’s College where he taught Physics, Additional Mathematics (Pure and Applied) from 1972 to 1974 as a Temporary Teacher 11. He then moved on to Rio Claro Government Secondary School where he taught MathÂematics from 1974 to 1976 as a Temporary Teacher 11. His last stop was at Fatima College starting in 1977 where he taught Mathematics, Additional Mathematics and Chemistry as a Temporary Special Teacher 111. He was appointed special teacher 111 in 1979 and served at Fatima College from 1979 to 2007. He functioned as Head of Department for Chemistry and General Science from 1977-2007. He retired from Fatima College on 3rd of March 2007 (on his birthday) at the age of 60. Due to his undying love for his students, he continued his teachÂing career at Fatima College. In July 2008, Mr. Krishna Charles decided to visit India where he studied, for a six week vacation. He then fell ill with a Massive Stroke and died on Tuesday 29th July in Shillong, India, at the age of 61. He was cremated on the 2nd August 2008 in India, and his ashes were brought back to Trinidad. Krishna Charles married his beautiful wife Feroza on January 11th 1974, and had a bouncing baby girl, Devi (Blues), the apple of their eyes. Mrs. Charles had always tended to her husband’s needs in whatever way she could, enabling him to earn a living. Fatima College was Mr. Charles’ first wife, as he would call it. He spent most of his day there, heading out before dawn at 5am to beat the heavy traffic on mornÂings. Toiling throughout the day with his students and also giving extra lessons to those who needed his help. Then out again as the sun began to set. Mr. Charles loved all of his students and did his utmost best in molding their lives academically and socially. More than a dediÂcated teacher, a good friend. Mr. Krishna Charles once said in his retirement function to his students, “I will not abandon you,” “Stress builds character.” Mr. Charles has not abandoned you, but has gone to a different place of rest and peace, with his Maker. Remember he dedicated his entire life to you Fatima boys, so make him proud. He would certainly like that. To the teachers and members of staff who were privileged to know him, we know he will live on in your hearts forever. The Chemistry Lab “his haven”, would certainly remind you of him. Mr. Krishna Charles was a very spiritual person. He would be seen chanting the name of the Lord on his prayer beads
